Introduction

When I met Laura, I was instantly drawn to her because, in many ways, we come from similar worlds. We’re both Lithuanian, both artists navigating how to present ourselves to the public, and both deeply curious about the intersection of creativity and spirituality—where they connect and where they might diverge.

I’m especially inspired by her journey, what I call "coming out of the spiritual closet"—fully embracing and living her path so beautifully, something I am still learning to do myself. Laura is not only an inspiring filmmaker with stunning projects under her belt but also a teacher, a guide, a creative, and a mother—not just to her two beautiful children but to her ideas, her work, and even the little guest that unexpectedly visits our video interview (wait for it).

Looking for someone to help bring your vision to life—whether through filmmaking, commercials, or tarot guidance? Curious to learn more about Tarot? She’s your guide.

Let’s dive in.

A Moment from the Interview:

Here’s a little snippet from our conversation, which has been crafted into an article below. The full interview is available after the paywall. 🤍

Laura Tamošiūnaitė: Blending Cinema, Symbolism, and the Unconscious 🤍

For Laura, filmmaking and spiritual exploration are not separate paths but two intertwined journeys. A director, writer, and producer, she has spent nearly a decade crafting visually immersive stories that explore the depths of human consciousness. At the same time, her work with Tarot archetypes and symbolism has shaped her creative approach, allowing her to bridge the seen and unseen worlds. Through her production company, Oktava Films, her Octave Readings and the newly established Octave Institute, Laura invites audiences and students alike to embark on journeys of self-discovery, creativity, and transformation.

A Filmmaker’s Spiritual Awakening

Laura’s journey as a filmmaker began alongside her spiritual exploration. While studying for her Master’s in Film Directing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, she was deeply drawn to themes of mystery and realism. As she questioned the kind of stories she wanted to tell, she found herself drawn toward exploring the human experience through deeper, symbolic narratives.

At the same time, Laura was delving into the world of Tarot. What started as a personal interest soon became an integral part of her creative process. Tarot’s archetypes, rooted in the collective unconscious, provided a framework through which she could understand characters, emotions, and storytelling structures. “Tarot was something tangible,” she explains. “I was drinking in everything—the Tarot system, Jungian psychology, the subconscious world—and it was shaping my stories.”

Initially, Laura kept her Tarot practice private, viewing it as something separate from her public-facing work in film. But over time, she realized that both her spiritual insights and her cinematic storytelling were deeply connected. “There are no two mountains,” she says. “They are one.”

The Power of Embracing Darkness and Authenticity

A key theme in Laura’s work—both in filmmaking and in her Tarot practice—is the necessity of confronting one’s inner shadows. She believes that acknowledging pain and vulnerability is essential not only for personal growth but also for creative expression. “Creativity started to flow when I acknowledged the uncomfortable parts inside of me,” she says. “Ignoring them is avoidance. But when you accept them, they become fuel for creation.”

For Laura, Tarot is more than a divination tool; it is a bridge to the subconscious. Her readings are designed to empower and uplift, offering insights that help individuals connect with their intuition. This approach extends to her work with Oktava Institute, where she trains aspiring Tarot practitioners. Her course, Tarot Archetype Codes: The Journey from Beginner to Master, takes students on a deep, immersive journey into the wisdom of Tarot, emphasizing not just intellectual understanding but personal integration.

Grounded Spirituality and Future Visions

Despite her deep connection to the metaphysical, Laura remains firmly grounded in the physical world. She emphasizes the importance of balance, using practices like breathwork, movement, and even standing on a nail board to stay centered. “Spirituality that isn’t grounded in reality is just glorified dissociation,” she recalls a quote by Suzanne Segal.

As she looks ahead, Laura is most excited about the future of Oktava Institute and her upcoming Tarot course. “It’s a journey, and every time I think of the women who have registered, I get goosebumps,” she says. At the same time, her filmmaking projects continue to expand, blending visual artistry with deep existential exploration.

Through her work, Laura Tamošiūnaitė invites people to look beyond the surface—whether through film, Tarot, or personal introspection. In a world where authenticity is becoming increasingly valued, she stands as a guide, helping others navigate both their inner landscapes and the cinematic realms she creates.
